It's been a while since I've posted anything or been active and I'm really sorry :( We'll miss you Pat, and welcome to those that I haven't meet yet :) For those that haven't seen my scouting graphs yet, virtually what I do is I take bases and I scout them based on which weakness they are and put them so that our clan members with that troops can easily tackle it and get a 3 star better. We are at a new phase where before the Graph contained information like "can be Lv4 hogged or Lv3 Dragonned" but now virtually all the bases are hard so that my old system is Retired. I have been struggling to find a replacement for it, and to be honest, we are at the point were we know what we capable of as a whole.
This post is just a revamped demonstration and more of a highlight on the darker secrets of base designs that usually no one really covers since they only like to create bases and not explain much of how it works and compared to other designs. For me, I LOVE to dissect and compare all these base ideas and I usually have the general sense of battle and structure to know how bases would work against which army. I'm going to use my own knowledge to Categories the similarity in bases, and give more knowledge to the clan about base design.
There are about 5-7 Different Categories as of now that I can certainly fit base designs into. Some have a slight tweak, more giant bomb potential, but usually those under the same category have the same fatal flaw or the same flow and weaknesses which troops (say Hogs Riders) can easily do the same attack against. I am not going to touch on TH9s-Th10 areas as that category is another region.
Disclaimers: Of course Town Hall 9s have more defense structures and hit harder than TH8s so do keep them in mind. Some designs in the categories of base could be WAY better than those mentioned below so do keep that in mind. There are also those weirdly made bases, the different personally constructed bases, and there are those weird ones....
White Flag Bases Description: This bases focuses on spreading everything out alot more and protecting the center. Usually the Defense are alot more spaced out and centralized ADs. The goal of the White Flag base is to protect against the Third Star being acquired at the cost of more easily accessed Town Hall. Most of the troops would be spent to enter the center so nothing left to break out. Centralize Clan Castle Or Town Hall?: White flag bases are usually tend to frighten Hogs away, and mostly people who can Gowipe attack these types of bases. Centralizing CC will put the Town Hall too close to the edges and giving Dragon Users more chance to break it. No point in hiding the CC in White Flag Bases, and make it harder for Dragons to 2 Stars. Suggested to Centralize TH. Advantage: Hard to 3 Star for all types of troops. Disadvantages: Easy 2 stars given. ------------------------- Vs. Hogs: Virtually 0% chance to 3 stars (unless high TH), only well planned attacks for 2 Stars. Too many potential holes for Giant bombs and too much to go around. Vs. Dragons: High (70%) chance of getting hit in the Town Hall 2 Stars. Extremely low chance of getting 3 Stars, too many things to go around. Vs. Gowipe: Usually Guaranteed 2 Stars. Weak against: Holowiwi. Chances of getting on first attack 2 Starred: High. Chances of getting 2 Starred: 50-70% chance. Chances of getting 3 Starred : Extremely Low.
Good Designs Poor Designs | Circular Bases Description: Circular Base designs is usually intended to tackle both Hogs and Dragons. It's a fine balance between well protected and well done. Storages are usually besided the Air Defenses or around the sides. Usually this base can still be 3 starred at TH8 and a low chance of getting 3 Starred. This is like the jack of all-trade base that gives 70% to protecting against most stuff, but can be overpowered. Centralize Clan Castle Or Town Hall? Both seems to be well balanced in terms of giving and taking. Centralizing CC makes it harder for Hogs easier for Dragons and vise versa. The only thing I would say though is at TH9, you really don't have to worry about getting Hogged unless your design is bad so I would lean more towards centralizing TH to waste more attacks on your base. Advantage: Flexible, aesthetically appealing, and blocks majority of attackers. Disadvantages: A target that invites alot of challengers (even slightly weaker ones) and get 3 started by slightly stronger people. Good Designs VS Poor Designs Have 2x3 areas in the outer ring of the base OR if TH9, have a wider circle so that hogs will take longer to finish. Well placed traps and storages to block Dragons. Vs. Hogs: Only Th9 and Lv4-5+ Hogs will work. Tough base and usually people who use hogs stay clear of bases with 2x3 spaces all over. Any bases without 2x3 spaces between defenses is a given 100% 3 stars for opponent. Vs. Dragons: Lures alot of Dragon users that want to test their courage. Has about a 1/3 chances of getting 2 stars though (if Town Hall is in the middle). Vs. Gowipe: This base has a slim chance of mess up the path of the Gowipe troops, but can be moderately 3 starred if planned well. Weak against: Slightly stronger enemies for 3 Stars. Chances of getting on first attack 2 Starred: (1/3 for Dragon, 100% vs poor bases and 1/3 for good bases for hogs). Chances of getting 2 Starred: High. Chances of getting 3 Starred : Medium-High(TH8), Low(TH9). Aki's wisdom: I really discourage use of circular bases in TH8s due to the fact that the bases in this Category has still a high chance of getting 3 starred. |
The Moat/Islands Description: The Moats is when the middle island is totally separated from the outer ring of defense so any Dragon or Hog users that are only half-decent, won't be able to pull it off. Mostly the base is seperating the outside "islands" into chucks that way they get 'pushed' across the whole section first before going onto the next one. Centralize Clan Castle Or Town Hall?: Doesn't really matter, since it's on it's own seperate Island. I do lean more towards centralizing though, since smart Hogs users can go into the middle. Advantage: Wastes alot of attacks earlier on in the game, and chances of being only 1 starred on. Disadvantages: A Higher Risk of getting 3 starred as well. Also most designs are ugly.... ------------------------- Vs. Hogs: Usually it attracts half decent Hog users and end up failing to break through. I'd say there is a 1/4 chances of it actually working but still would have a tough time. Vs. Dragons: The first dragon users usually fails, while the second and third one guarentees a 2-stars. Still possible to 3 star though. Vs. Gowipe: High possibility to be 3 starred. Chances of getting on first attack 2 Starred: Really Low. Chances of getting 2 Starred: Delayed till later on in War. Chances of getting 3 Starred : Low-Medium. Aki's Wisdom: This could be another alternative to the White Flag base as it does exhaust alot of opponent's attacks before they can get that 3 star.
Triangular Description: Triangular Bases look like they are good to Tank through things but in reality they are like glass, hard at first but once you put a break it, you can easily move past everything. Similar case, as long as you place the dragons or troops at the point where all the defenses/Air Defense is most present and kill it before it does too much damage, you usually can just roflstomp the remaining base. ------------------------- Vs. Hogs: Those without any true 2x3 spaces in the base will easily get crushed. Even if there are giant bombs, they are usually positioned half way between the top shell and bottom shell, and by then you can send a clean up crew for a certain 2 stars. Vs. Dragons: Dragons just need to aim at the two Air defenses first, or the part with the most stuff and then aim towards the lower region. Vs. Gowipe: High possibility to be 3 starred. Chances of getting on first attack 2 Starred: High. Chances of getting 2 Starred: 100% Chances of getting 3 Starred : Varies on Base. Aki's Wisdom: At TH9 you have room to experiment, but at TH8 I do not approve of using Triangular shaped bases due to Dragons being able to then take over both ADs at once.
The Square Description: Square base at at first might look good but in reality, their defense capability is poor. Due to the fact that it's soo linear, a line of Dragons can easily mow past the whole base regardless of AD position and storages will get killed fast. Square bases also usually mean that there are not alot of openings for Giant Bombs so Hogs can go Ham on the base easily. Since it's so blocky, all troops (dragon, balloons, Hogs) only need to go into a single direction swept to clear all the defenses. and another thing is that Square bases have T-intersections so Gowipe can break that and have access to 3 areas at once. ------------------------- Vs. Hogs: 80% of the bases can be easily Hogged. Vs. Dragons/Balloon.:Most Bases that are squared can be just swept away. Chances of getting on first attack 2 Starred: High. Chances of getting 2 Starred: 100% Chances of getting 3 Starred : 100% Aki's Wisdom: Square base are poop. Vunerable to almost every attack including balloons.
